The lads had the privilege of tasting these drams at a recent launch event and my oh my they were fantastic!
This latest Rare Find collection brings together four distinctive single casks that explore the relationship between spirit and wood across some of Scotland’s most compelling whisky styles.
Opening the line-up is a 12-year-old Blair Athol finished in 1st fill ex-bourbon oak, showcasing the distillery’s rich, honeyed character with remarkable clarity and balance. Alongside it sits a 14-year-old Deanston matured in a Napa Valley red wine barrique, where the Highland distillery’s waxy, cereal-led spirit meets layers of dark fruit and gentle spice.
Completing the collection is a fascinating pair of 9-year-old whiskies both finished oloroso sherry quarter casks. A vibrant Dalmunach demonstrates how active sherry maturation enhances the fruity character of modern Speyside spirit, while a mystery Islay malt reveals an altogether different expression of the same cask influence, where smoke, coastal character and rich sherry notes intertwine.
Together, these four releases form a study in contrast and character. From the purity of bourbon maturation to the influence of red wine and the intensity of oloroso sherry, each bottling offers a unique perspective on the interaction between spirit and wood. Distinctive, individual and bottled at their natural best, they continue Rare Find’s commitment to uncovering exceptional single-cask Scotch whisky.
